Stage 5 Drought Contingency Plan ENACTED

7/9/2025

Most of you are aware that the City of Burton is in the process of actively drilling Water Well #5. We have reached that stage in the process where the City of Burton has enacted Stage 5 of the Drought Contingency Plan.

Stage 5 of the Plan means that the following items are PROHIBITED: 1. Irrigation of lanscaped areas as well as the watering of lawns, flower beds, etc. with a garden hose or automatic water system; 2. The use of water to wash motor vehicles, boats, etc.; 3. Filling, refilling or adding water to swimming pools, wading pools, and jacuzzi type pools or tubs; 4. Operaton of any ornamental foundtain or pond for aesthetic or scenic purposes; 5. Washing down sidewalks, walkways, driveways, parking lots, etc.; 6. Power wathing buildings; and, Flushing gutters.

The goal is a 20% reduction of water usage as well as an increased awareness about water conservation practices as the residents and businesses located within the city limits, as well as ETJ water system customers, support one another as Water Well #5  moves one step closer in the drilling process.

Stage 5 of the Drought Contingency Plan will go into effect immediately and remain in effect until late Friday, July 11. If things change or need modification, we will let you know.

Thank you for your cooperation & patience during this time!
